We have recently upgraded our servers and hope that the site is now faster for all.

As some of you may know we had a visit from a 'hacker'. He was able to get access to anyones passwords for the chatrooms.

This exploit has now been fixed and his IP has been banned from the chat server, web site and web server as well as his ISP being informed of his games.

I spent 30 mins looking into some pages on the chatspace server and playing around and was indeed able to view anyones password without even having to login to chat!!

This was due to Chatspaces sloppy coding. All you had to do was go to the page profile.htm and add a simply query string to the end ' ?isadmin=true&nick=NickName&target=NickName'
The resulting page would display the persons profile along with a '******' password field, which is then easily read with a password viewer.

Turns out he was more of a lamer than a hacker. lol

This page has now been deleted.

We advise you all to change your passwords as soon as possible and to pass this advise on to other chatters.

To change your password you can use the following command........
/Services SET yourNicknameHere PASS newPasswordHere

The security of the website was not compromised, however if you have the same password for chat and the website we would advise that you change your password for the website too.
To change your password for the website, login, got to the bottom right of the page under 'User Menu', go to 'View Account', click on 'Edit Profile' and enter your new password.

Appologies for anyone who had problems getting into Chat on Wednesday.

There was a problem with pipes and the database server. This may not have been spotted immediately as everything appeared fine when looking into chat if already in chat.

We will be looking through the log files and kicking some silicon ass!!

Apologies for anyone who was getting an Error 500 Server Time Out page today when trying to get to the site.

This was traced to a problem in the script between the Bots and the site for the new Users in Chat block on the right hand side of the home page.

This block will show the nicks of people who are currently in the chatrooms.

I now have a headache but the script and the problem is now fixed !
